Sculptural or full 3D carving is the deepest category of relief work, where the carved form projects almost or entirely free of the background surface, closer to a standalone sculpture than a decorated panel. Rather than a single flat background with a pattern rising from it, sculptural carving may involve forms that curve, undercut extensively, or in some cases separate entirely from the base panel, requiring either multi-axis CNC machining or a hybrid process combining CNC roughing with hand finishing to achieve the final form. This is the most labour- and machine-intensive category, and is generally reserved for centerpiece elements rather than full wall coverage.

Sculptural and full 3D carving is best suited to:

  • Deity figures or statue-like centerpieces within a mandir setup

  • Freestanding decorative sculptures or figurines

  • Single dramatic focal elements combined with lower-relief surrounding panels

  • Projects where budget and timeline allow for a genuinely custom, sculptural outcome

Because full 3D forms often require finishing work beyond what a single CNC pass can achieve — undercuts, rounded surfaces, and fine detail on curved forms typically need hand sanding and touch-up carving — this category carries both the highest cost and the longest turnaround of the three relief types. It's rarely used for an entire panel, and far more commonly reserved for one or two focal pieces within a larger, lower-relief composition.
